Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Apr 5, 2010 at 2:58 PM

I am trying to use this on a 64bit Server 2003 R2.  SQL 2005 SP2 database, and I am using the 2005 install.  The package installs, I can add it to the toolbox and can drop it onto a data flow page, but when I try to open the task to configure it, I get an error window that says "Object reference not set to an instance of an object".  I have verified that I see the DLL in the Pipeline folder and I can see it in the windows\assembly folder.  I'm not sure where to go from here.  I have successfully installed and configured it on a 2008 Server, SQL 2005, 32bit.

Sounds like the component is installed, but I haven't see that issue before.  It may be the x64 to x32 Thunk between the OS and the BIDS GUI.

Can you check if there is a copy of the DLL in the (x86) Pipeline folder.  If not, can you copy it there, restart BIDS and see if that corrects the problem?

I haven't had issues on other x64 (Windows 2003, Vista, Windows 2008 R2) platforms, but they have been SQL 2008, or SQL 2005 and SQL 2008...

I will have to build that environment to test in, to assist me in setting up the test environment, can you please do a Help About within BIDS, and post the "Installed Products" output (press the Copy Info button).

And let me know which services show up in SQL Server Configuration Manager.

And the output from SELECT @@VERSION would also assist.

I verified the dll is in both Pipeline folders, I had to copy it to the other Pipeline folder though.  I restarted BIDS and I still get the error.
