SQL Server 2012 x64 with developer laptops 32bit

Oct 22, 2014 at 1:16 PM
We have an Microsoft Server 2008 R2 (x64) with SQL Server 2012 x64.
Our developers use 32bit laptops (SSDT + SSDTBI) and our IT department doesn't supply 64bit configuration workstations (we are a very large organisation, 64bits workstations will not happen in the near future).

I tried to install the MultipleHash2012.ddl (x64) from the server on the workstations with the workaround (gacutil) but it throws an "Failure adding assembly to the cache: Unknown Error".

I now installed the 32 bit version but is this going to work? Can we develop using the 32 bits component and have the x64 version on the dev and prod server?

This will work.

The DLL's for x32 and x64 are built from the same code base.

FYI:
The 64 bit install, installs the 32 bit DLL for SSDT's or BIDS to work, as they are 32 bit applications.
